Building the Next Generation in Finance
The first Flyover Stocks podcast guest has written multiple investing books for young people, spoken to the Google Investment Group, and she's still a senior in college.
A Flyover Stocks Interview with Maya Peterson
For the first Flyover Stocks podcast interview, I was delighted to host my friend Maya Peterson.
Maya is in her final year at UMass Amherst (I misspoke in the intro saying she recently graduated) where she’s currently the CEO of the Smart Woman Securities chapter and has a buyside offer in hand for when she graduates this spring.
I’ve been friends with Maya’s father for over a decade and first met Maya at the 2015 Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting. Her and her younger brother, Soren (who runs the Pillars and Profits newsletter), have attended the Berkshire AGM just about every year since elementary school and are regulars outside the arena doors in the wee hours of the morning.
Maya has authored or co-authored three investing books, two of which are in print:
She was also the first female investor to be invited to speak at the Google Investment Group.
In our discussion, Maya and I discuss ways in which parents, universities, and the industry can foster interest - particularly among young women - in business and investing at an early age, what she learned through her internships, and the importance of building a network of industry mentors.
I hope you enjoy my conversation with Maya Peterson.
Stay patient, stay focused.
